Jebediah
+ The Fuzz, The City Lights
Heaven, 3 September
I must say Adelaide, I'm slightly disappointed. Three awesome bands do us a favour by making a stop over and only a few of us had the decency to turn up. Luckily as the night grew more and more people wised up and at least caught the main attraction.
First up was The Fuzz followed by The City Lights. I was pleasantly
surprised at the entertaining shows put on by both but it was the
'Lights boppy combination of 60's and 80's pop rock that was stripped
back to incorporate their own signature style that really impressed
me. Their cover of the 1960s band The Tamrons Wild Man complete
with monkey noises was hilarious. Danny Allen strummed his guitar
so hard and fast that I was sure at any moment he would break his
arm while his percussion solo was a brilliant display of the bands
diversity. Given the scarcity of folk in the crowd special mention
goes to the groover in the front row who was having a good time on
the behalf of everyone there!
After a latish start (probably due to waiting for more folk to arrive)
Jebediah poured on to the stage and pulled out yet another fantastic
performance. There was a balanced mix of oldies and newies played
and even though the crowd went nuts at the more well known songs,
the opportunity to hear the newer songs live for the first time was
a long-awaited desire finally satisfied. Stand out tracks were
It's Over, First Time and NDC. It wouldn't have
been a Jebs show had Harpoon not been played and they didn't
fail to live up to expectations. I always knew Kevin Mitchell was
a talented musician and when he won half the crowd over by playing
his guitar with his tongue without missing a beat, I was simply astounded!
The Jebs were even joined by The City Lights on stage for Leaving
Home even though we were assured that wasn't part of the script.
All in all, another brilliant performance in the history of Jebediah.
