Last Nerve.

You might think that Last Nerve would be practicing their collective arses off, what with their upcoming national tour, but vocalist Dave Immerz laughed the suggestion off. "We're always relaxing, always having fun."
Listening to their music one could easily be forgiven for thinking they'd be anything but relaxed. Their old school punk sound is played flat-out, evidenced by their soon to be released split with Los Angeles-based Internal Affairs.
"Towards the end of 2003 we were touring with Terror and we became pretty good friendsā" Immerz explains. "I gave a few CDs to Scott Vogel, who's been in bands since the early 90s, and told him to give them out to anyone he thought might appreciate them. Just before Christmas we got an e-mail from Corey Williams who is the singer from Internal Affairs and he suggested we do a split together because he wanted to tour out here in Australia. After I got that e-mail, literally within an hour it was all sorted. We were going to release the split and we had booked recording time. Hopefully we should have some by the time we play in Adelaide."
Unsurprisingly, Immerz is something of a fan. "I picked up their demo recording and absolutely loved it, so the fact that Corey emailed us was awesome. I actually thought it was a practical joke to start off with. But apparently it wasn't," he adds with a wry laugh.
If Internal Affairs want to do the split because they want to come over to Australia, surely Last Nerve must be thinking about going over to the good old US of A.
"That's the plan. We'll hopefully go over there for their next summer which will be next July. We've been in touch with a couple of people who organise small festivals over there and got the all-clear to play those. We'll also be playing a fair bit with Internal Affairs."
Underground hardcore is not exactly a massive money spinner, so one assumes that the financial side of things may not be what motivates Last Nerve.
"We expect to lose a lot when we go to America, but it's something we want to do. I am really looking forward to it and see it as a fun way to have a holiday and play music at the same time.
"At the end of the day, we like the simple stuff played well. Stuff like old Bad Brains was mainly made up of three chords: it was simple but it was also powerful and full of energy and passion and they didn't try to complicate things." That being said, Last Nerve have a message that they want to convey. Immerz put it succinctly as "being honest, being a good person and standing up for what you believe in. To have some integrity."
Well said, I think.
