Prize Frenzy™!
Spring has sprung, and as a young man's fancy turns lightly to love, a giant sulphur-belching daemon's fancy turns to Prize Frenzy™! And that'd be why Frenzor™ has gathered so darn much great stuff up for dB Magazine's beloved readership: get a-dialing 8231 0881 at 1pm on Fri 10 Sept and make your play for your choice of the following:
1. The Black Keys have just dropped their rather rockin' new album 'Rubber Factory,' and frontman Dan Auerbach tells Cassie Hilditch all about it in this issue - and we have some several copies up for grabs, thanks to Shock.
2. The legendary Will Oldham is coming to Adelaide under the guides of Bonnie "Prince" Billy, and he has a very neighbourly chat with Leni Simos about his various project: and we have three doubles to his show at the Gov on Wed 22 Sept thanks to Feel Presents.
3. Andrew P Street reckons that 'The Micallef Programme' is the only comedy in Australia that shouldn't be buried up to its neck in an anthill - and you can see why by grabbing one of the five copies of the two-DVD set of the second series that Kaleidoscope have generously sent our way.
4. James Brazel had a civilised chat with the lads from Alchemist - which we couldn't squeeze into this jam-packed issue, but you can check online at dbmagazine.com.au - and the fine folks at Scorpion Entertainment have slipped us two doubles to their show at Enigma on Sat 11 Sept.
5. Andrew P Street will happily take any opportunity to chat with Scott Kannberg and the fact that Preston School Of Industry are coming to Adelaide is a perfect excuse. What's more, Handsome Tours have given us three double passes to their Jade Monkey show on Thurs 16 Sept.
6. Australian rock legends the Celibate Rifles are coming to Adelaide for the first time in yonks and Frank Trimboli gets the lowdown from Mr Damien Lovelock. What's more, we have three packs containing a double pass to their Fri 24 Sept show at Fowlers Live and a copy of their brand new 'Beyond Respect' CD, thanks to CBAR publicity.
7. In The Grey are possibly Australia's hardest touring band, as Sam Vinall learns in this issue. Meanwhile, you can see what it is the band do whilst their touring hard by grabbing one of the two double passes that TPA have given us for their Fri 17 Sept show at the Enigma Bar.
8. Ben Revi discusses wine, rock and Adelaide geography with Stuart Chatwood of Tea Party in this issue - and we have five copies of their brand-spanking-new 'Seven Circles' CDs, thanks to EMI.
9. Awww! Ben Kweller might well be the cutest man in rock: read Eddie Chan's interview with him in this issue, then grab a copy of his 'On My Way' CD, thanks to BMG.
10. Or maybe you'd prefer something a little more... feline? We have ten in-season double passes to the forthcoming 'Catwoman' up for grabs, thanks for Foster Workshop PR.
11. Betchadupa, Love Outside Andromeda, Bad Girls Of The Bible: heck of a fine lineup, that, and we have two doubles to the show thanks to Scorpion Entertainment.
Extra Special Jet Competition!!
The Frenztron5000™ has also gone extra-specially prizetastic, thanks to Chrissie Vincent Publicity: we're running a very special online competition for those wishing to score themselves tickets to Jet's show at Memorial Drive on Fri 22 Oct.
But we're not going to make it easy for you. In fact, we want you to COMPOSE US A POEM. Yep, we want you to let Jet fire your muse (as opposed to letting Muse fire your jets, which would be an entirely different competition) and inspire a work of poetical wonder. It could be a limerick, a haiku, a sonnet, an laudanum-fuelled epic: whatever form you feel best evokes the rock'n'roll spirit of Jet.
Send your work to andrew@dbmagazine.com.au and you could have a double pass in your hot little hand!
Online Only Frenzy™!
'I Spit On Your Grave' was banned in Australia until the mid-90 s, and now Force Entertainment have released this controversial film as an extras-packed DVD. What's more, they've given us five copies thereof. All you have to do is answer these staggeringly simple questions:
1. What's 'I Spit On Your Grave''s alternative title?
2. Who was director Mier Zarchi married to?
Both answers can be found in Andrew P Street's erudite article in this very issue - so email your answers to him at andrew@dbmagazine.com.au.
