Jestofunk
Seventy Miles From Philadelphia
Rec In Pause/IRMA/Aztec
During the early 90s a new musical movement called Acid Jazz emerged and Jestofunk was one of the first groups to embrace it. Formed by three innovative Italian DJs (Moz-Art, Francesco Farias and Blaze), Jestofunk fused jazz music with electronic genres, including house, reggae, latin, soul and hip-hop, and their first album 'Love In Black Dimension' helped define them as one of the premier acid jazz bands of the 90s.
It is now the new millennium and with their third studio album 'Seventy Miles From Philadelphia' Jestofunk stay true to their sound whilst still pushing their creative envelopes. The beautiful and sensual jazz/soul fusions of Mama Blues and Walk Like A Baby, the hip-hop laced beats of Smokin Plant and the Brazilian influenced Mondo Negro highlight the group's impressive ability to meld genres and produce something distinctive and unique. However, this is far from an experimental album: Disco Queen, Big Lover and Believe In Music confirm that 'Seventy Miles From Philadelphia' is a true Jestofunk production.
As new musical genres develop and new movements in electronic and dance music emerges it will only give groups such as Jestofunk more ammunition for innovative musical fusion, pushing the boundaries of jazz, funk and electronic music.
