There has been a change of venue for the Adelaide leg of the Exhumed 'Anatomy Is Destiny Down Under' tour on Sat 19 June. Now at the Highway Inn, the show has also become all ages, with the first band on at 6:30pm sharp. A forerunner of the gore metal movement, Exhumed was formed in 1991 by guitarist/vocalist Matt Harvey and drummer Col Jones (both were only 15 at the time). The band spent most of the 1990s working through a series of line-ups, demos and 7" EPs, culminating in the release of the influential album 'Gore Metal' in 1998. Originally a blend of Carcass-inspired grindcore and classic thrash metal, Exhumed's music took a more dynamic turn on their current album, 2002's 'Anatomy Is Destiny', combining the band's extreme grindcore roots with over-the-top guitar solos, metallic riffing and intricate song structures. Exhumed will be supported by fellow grind merchants Ebolie (NSW) and Fuck...I'm Dead, brutal Sydney death metallers Bludgeoner and local bands Slaughter Thou, Cloth Tape and Silovanje.
Bathory mastermind Tomas 'Quorthon' Forsberg
has died, aged 39. He was found dead in his Stockholm appartment,
reportedly due to heart failure.
Swedish death metallers Bloodbath have finished recording the follow-up to 2002's 'Resurrection Through Carnage'. The new album, entitled 'Nightmares Made Flesh' signals several line-up changes for the 'all-star' outfit: vocalist Mikael kerfeldt (Opeth) has been replaced by Hypocrisy/Pain's Peter TŠgtgren, former drummer Dan Swanš (Nightingale, Edge Of Sanity) is now handling guitar duties, while the new skinsman is Martin 'Axe' Axenrot from Witchery. "We promise you a fucking brutal and varied piece of work with especially outstanding performances by the new members Axe and TŠgtgren, proving Bloodbath is no longer only a tribute to death metal; it's death metal's very own elite", the band commented on the new material.
The Haunted have recently signed a world-wide
multiple album deal with Century Media. The band have already
completed work on their highly anticipated fourth album, which
will be released later in the year. The as-yet-untitled album
also marks the return of original vocalist Peter Dolving who
performed on the band's genre-defining, self-titled debut release.
Commented guitarist Anders Bjšrler: "It's nice to have Dolving
back in the band. He's energetic, hardworking and had thousands
of fresh musical ideas upon his return. We look forward to what
the future will hold for us as a band. After having recorded
this new album I feel confident it will work out extremely well.
Be on the look out for something really powerful."
In another Century Media coup, the label has also announced the signing of US experimenters Candiria. The band's new album, due for release in Australia on Mon 19 July, retains all the hallmarks of the band's signature sound, it also demonstrates a marked growth in the band's songwriting focus. Bass player Michael MacIvor has described the new material as more of an "up and down journey", less quirky and less jazz-oriented than previous outings. If you'd like to check out the album prior to the release date, Candiria are currently streaming audio clips from all 10 tracks of 'What Doesn't Kill You...' on their website www.candiriamusic.com/media.php (click on 'Jukebox').
Lamb Of God have recruited a pair of their
childhood heroes, ex-Megadeth guitarist Chris Poland and former
Testament axeman Alex Skolnick to guest on their third album,
'Ashes Of The Wake'. The band are currently in the studio, with
a tentative release date scheduled for Aug 2004.
Lacuna Coil's entire back catalogue has recently been re-issued with extras and altered artwork. The Italian goth metal heavy weights have released three full-length albums and two EPs in a four-year span. Their self-titled debut album has been reissued with altered artwork and a bonus EP 'In A Reverie', 'Unleashed Memories' has been re-released with new artwork and the 'Halflife' EP, while Lacuna Coil's latest album 'Comalies' has been reissued with an exclusive multimedia component.
