Prize Frenzy™!

Frenzor™'s feeling a little bit theatrical of late. Mostly it's because he's waiting on a callback about his audition for 'Guys & Dolls,' but some of it is attributable to the Adelaide Cabaret Festival which kicks off on Fri 11 June. In any case, he'd sooner you didn't needlessly tie up the phone line (8231 0881) at 1pm on Fri 4 June - unless you're a theatrical agent with a juicy part for an enormous winged daemon, of course. Something like Frederick in 'The Pirates Of Penzance' would be nice...

1. Since dB Magazine is a media partner of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, it'd be churlish of us not to offer some tickets to CabFest events - and no-one calls Frenzor™ a churl and doesn't get burnt to a sulphurous pile of ash. So: we have three double passes to the Bruised Ecstatic Collective (featuring Abi Tucker, Peter Fenton and David Lane) on Tues 15 June, thanks to the Festival Centre and the Cabaret Festival.

2. And more Cabaret action! We've got three double passes to 'Suitcase: the music & lyrics of Sean Peter" (Peter being the chap that wrote songs for such productions as 'The Pink Files' and 'Everything's Fucked') on Tues 22 June, thanks again to the Festival Centre and the Cabaret Festival.

3. What? More CabFest? We have three double passes to 'Before Time Could Change Us,' a jazz extravaganza featuring George's Katie Noonan and the Paul Grabowsky Trio, on Thurs 24 June. Thanks again, Festival Centre and Cabaret Festival - and check out the interview with Katie in this issue.

4. Eddie Chan's very taken with The Zutons' debut album 'Who Killed The Zutons?' - so much so that it's this issue's 'We Liked It - And You Will Too.' Sony concur, and they've given us five copies because they're just that nice.

5. 28 Days are - finally - back in Adelaide on their Democracy tour and we have some passes to their Adelaide UniBar show on Fri 11 June, thanks to Michael Chugg Entertainment.

6. Jebediah have a brand new single out - First Time - and they'd like you to hear it. Hence they've asked the good folks at Redline Records to send us five copies. Nice, eh?

7. Ben Revi has an illuminating chat with Speedstar's Richard Johnston about their brand new 'Forget The Sun, Just Hold On...' - and we have three copies of said album, thanks to EMI.

8. Jackson United are coming to Australia for the very first time and Ryan Smith has a nice chat with Chris Shiflett about his life as a Jackson and a Foo Fighter - and we have copies of their 'Western Ballads' CD, thanks to Shock.

9. Adam Hood speaks with Joey Jordison about Slipknot's brand new album 'Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)' - check out the article in this issue, then grab yourself a copy thanks to Roadrunner.

10. You've heard that disco version of Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb and thought 'wow, wouldn't mind owning an album with that song on it,' right? Then you'll want a copy of the Scissor Sisters' self-titled CD , thanks to UMG.

11. Those madmen Gus & Frank are returning to Adelaide in support of their new album 'I'd Rather Be A Bass Player' and Australian Music Biz have chosen to celebrate by sending us three copies of that very CD.

12. You're intrigued by Richard X, right? You'd like hear his Back To Mine compilation? Of course you would. And DMC have kindly sent us three copies to facilitate said hearing thereof.

13. Even have returned with a rocktacular new album: it's called 'Free Kicks' and we have a few copies up for grabs, thanks to Shock!

Online Only Frenzy™!

Cat Power is making her long-awaited return to Adelaide for a show at the Gov on Thurs 17 June, and the Frenztron5000™ and Feel Presents has two double passes with your name on at least one of them - that is, it will be if you can answer these fiendish questions (in increasing order of fiendishness):

1. What is Cat Power's real name?

2. Which grunge icon guested on 'You Are Free'?

3. One of Cat Power's ex's immortalised her in rebus form on the cover of one of his albums (which showed a cat and a lightning flash). Name the artist and the album.

Get your answer to andrew@dbmagazine.com.au - first two correct entries get a double pass each.
