28 Days.

28 DaysAfter all the success 28 Days have enjoyed, and taking into account all of the interviews they each have probably had to do, one could easily expect a bit of apathy on the other end of the phone whenever they're forced to do another. To my surprise, however, Jedi, the man behind the decks, was more than affable.

The band are starting to think about their next album, and Jedi happily explained that on this occasion they had about eight months to prepare for it - which is apparently not characteristic of 28 Days. "No, no, no!" he laughs "This is the most prepared we have ever been. Most of [debut album] 'Upstyledown' was written in the studio."

I suggest that perhaps writing in the studio could have some adverse effects; perhaps recording a song when it is only in the formative stage of its evolution could lead to discontent further down the road and invite revisions to the song when it comes time to play it to an audience.

"The songs are pretty much the same, but I guess there are a few changes here and there. Damo might change the end of a bass riff sometimes or something like thatâ but songs always evolve. I guess when you are playing them everyday for years on end it can get a bit boring so it's good to change little bits around to keep it interesting for yourself."

Second album 'Stealing Chairs' was a very different to 'Upstyledown,' and Jedi pauses when asked how the new album compares with its immediate predecessor. "Well, with 'Stealing Chairs' we were going through a few issues and were having a bit of a hard time, but I think that it was the album that we really needed to do. However with the new album, I guess it might sound weird, but I think that it's the type of album that people would have expected after 'Upstyledown.'"

How so? "Well, I guess after 'Upstyledown' people had an idea in their heads as to what 28 Days were about and the sort of music that we played, but when it came to 'Stealing Chairs' I guess there was a bit of an emo tinge to it and I don't think it was what people expected from us," he explains. "I think what we've done now is probably more in line with the expectations people had for us."

When I press Jedi further, he shrugs. "I think it's a lot to do with the attitude. The new album is a lot more like 'Upstyledown' as far as attitude and vibe are concerned. It's a lot ballsier and there are more heavy songs on the album."

After only just finishing the recording of their new album, I assumed that now would be a time for Jedi and the band to relax for a bit. Apparently, however, this was not the case.

"You're always nervous!" he insists. "We've done all the work now, the rest is stress time. You're always stressing out about it. After you have listened to it a few times you start picking the shit out of it. I guess you are always more critical of what you have done yourself. Now it's in the hands of the record companies to get it out there, and then we have to do our job - which is pulling it off live."

So will we hear many new 28 Days songs on the set list for their upcoming tour?

"Oh, definitely. Basically I think the set will consist of all entirely new songs," Jedi declares, before backtracking to clarify his statement. "Er, of course we will also do all of the crowd favourites like Sucker... even though we have played them all a million times..."
