What Makes A Man Bare All?
Anthony Jucha
East End Exchange (Warehouse Room) Until Sun 14 March

What makes a man bare all? A question that's rhetorically asked many times over in this, a comically based exploration of social issues, morals and one man's askew sense of curiosity. Anthony Jucha (pronounced 'Yooha') takes us on an ongoing journey where, often upon acting on a whim, he covertly enters into different realms. Beginning his show by explaining his current position as an unemployed lawyer, Jucha moves on to tell of a weekend spent sleeping out with our city's homeless. Peppering the sadder aspects of this 'assignment' with many humorous revelations that serve to subtly deprecate his own good fortunes, one soon realises that his adventures are truly beautifully na•ve as well as purposeful.

Auditioning for the 'Puppetry Of The Penis' show when they were last in town, Jucha once again exposes himself, this time in more ways than one, by providing video footage of his efforts at some of the more popular tricks the troupe are famed for. Spotting an advert for a job with an agency that 'entraps' possible cheating partners, we hear his double-edged spin on the ethical side of sending out flirtatious spies to pubs and clubs. As a bonus, his attendance that day was captured by a local current affairs show and his new found charismatic cover had to be extended to match a much wider demographic than those on the company's interviewing panel. The results were again very embarrassing for Jucha, but also hilarious for us.

Literally sneaking past high security at a recent national arms and warfare convention held here in Adelaide, amid the six tonne missiles and other high tech weaponry, Jucha imparts some of his more human observations of this very dangerous mission.

Along with cleverly pieced together excerpts from love letters illustrating his pathetic obsession with a past girlfriend and numerous job application knock backs, this show is jam packed with many disparate ideas that all seem to work in nicely as a package. Topics such as gay stereotyping, bad op-shopping choices, the loss of his virginity and painful dick fractures are all laid bare with the fantastic and original use of props, video and paper trail back up. With musical interludes provided by Soursob Bob and Gary, this show moves along at a pace that's both entertaining and comfortable.
