Dave Williams - Flame On
A List Entertainment
Rhino Room Until Sat 13 March

This is one act I urge everyone to go see. Ex local Dave Williams has such a likable and easy going approach to his comedy that you almost forget he actually gets paid to make us laugh. Although there's a few moments where his material isn't entirely brilliant (yet still above average), his well timed and extremely funny delivery style, complete with great actions and voices, still managed to consistently bring home the chuckles. And it's that constant barrage of mostly original and friggin' hilarious ideas that elicited the audience's positive response throughout his set, and certainly places him right up there with the best I've seen all festival.

Naming his show, 'Flame On', after The Human Torch's catchcry, he utilised plenty of superhero references aimed at the geek community; there also a certain sensitive new age blokeyness about him, and his everyday 'one of the boys' take on his topics certainly works a charm.

After relaying tales of some bad experiences had at a Northern Suburbs party, jogging in the nude, and then with a gorgeous Canada backpacker, and an adolescent fascination with a Bunsen Burner, Williams closed the show by letting the audience dictate where his next story would lead by having them yell out random keywords at the end of each sentence. He very quickly and cleverly diverted the plot until he finished up with a complete and amazingly tidy and humorous improvised sketch. This is one young comedian with a big future.
