Dance News.
As the Fringe and Festival draw to a close, we bid a fond farewell to our weekly production schedule and return you to our regular fortnightly programming. Whilst this means a little less stress for us, don't think it means less partying for you, because Adelaide is still in full effect!
The Universal Playground ends its phenomenal
success with Max Tundra's cacophony of synths, beeps, beats,
glitches, horns, hooks, voices on Wed 10 March; the US maestro
of Tech House Theo Parrish on Thurs 11 March; and wraps up the
working week with the chunky beats and rhythms of Soma Rosa
on Fri 12 March. The Finale features the four party loving boys
renowned for their deep, funky, hip shaking, party grooving,
tongue-in-cheek, fancy-white-suit-wearing, incredible live show:
Sydney's Sneaky Sound System (try saying that three times after
a few beers). If you haven't been already, get along to the
Torrens Parade Ground to witness one of the best outdoor party
set ups Adelaide has ever seen!
Push continues to bring out the best acts to grace our hard house floors with Dynamic Intervention & Sol Ray. Dynamic Intervention is a vinyl machine, cranking out tunes at a rate higher than most DJs can buy them, while Sol Ray is editor of the intelligent and well-respected Upfront magazine, as well as being one of Bristols finest DJs. Joining the regular faces of Brendon, Dr Damage, Odyssey, Mr S, ATB, Cheeky B, Quantum, Submission, and H-Bomb at Traffic on Sat 13 March.
Larger than Life, Three Blind Mice, Sound
of Now and Total Kaos join forces to present the opening night
of Viva, Adelaide's newest Dance Club, Sat 20 March featuring
Rogue Traders and Nik Fish utilising both levels of the Night
Train Complex. Level one contains the House Arena featuring
Rogue Traders with Viva residents Brendon, JoSH, C4, ATB, Smooth
Grooves and MC Rudeboy, whilst the Ground Level is the Bass
Station Arena featuring Nik Fish with Bass Station residents
Phat Controller, Woody, Rocket, Aven and MC Divert.
Cisco Nights residents Schona and Matt Parker are celebrating their birthdays, and want you to come along too! They'll be giving you the pressies in the form of downtempo then upbeat house sets at Fad Bar on Sat 20 March. Matt Parker kicks it off with a downtempo set, proceeded by the more upbeat sounds of Antiks, Dan Ferris, Matt Parker vs Schona and wrapped up by Lachy Pender.
Heard of PSP009? No, it's not the new portable
Playstation: we're talking about the Pseudo Sound Project. To
be held at Devil Gully reserve, only an hour and a half from
the city, the ninth PSP fete extravaganza will explode with
hundreds of punters and experts alike, planting during the day
for a flurry of simultaneous sights and sounds to enjoy at night,
from chilling out with homemade brews or having a boogie in
one of our tetrahedron spaces. Over 3,000 seedlings will be
injected back into the area (some threatened species), and 15
artists will be showcasing new works. Steve Law from Melbourne
will provide ambient sounds whilst Dan Mckinley from Canberra
brings his unique mathematical sounds. From Adelaide Kristian
Thomas, Monkey On Tranx , Seth Bionic, Michael Goodfellow, Chris
Harrison, Rob the Live Violin player, Seb, Henry, Red Rabbit,
Dave, Daish, and much more will be playing anything from breaks
to ambient soundscapes. For more info on this outstanding project

Brace yourself as quite possibly the biggest hip hop/ drum & bass line-up ever to hit the city of Adelaide touches down at Heaven on Sun 21 March. The Beatfest tour brings legendary New York Latino hip-hop crew the Beatnuts to Australia for the very first time! Joining the Beatnuts on tour are two of the worlds finest ever turntablists; Roc Raida of the X-ecutioners fame and DJ Craze from the Allies (who also happens to be this issue's 'We Liked It And You Will Too!). Between them they hold more world titles than Lord of the Rings has Oscars.
Phew! Exhausted yet? There's still heaps
more to come, and from the sounds of this it looks like Adelaide
scene is still kicking on stronger than ever! We've battled
pokies, residential encroachments, and internal feuds between
DJs, Promoters and MCs, and yet somehow Adelaide still manages
to provide a top night out to help you forget about the working
week. However, Mr Mike Rann and other Pollies are hankering
to bring in stricter laws onto pubs and clubs because of a few
irresponsible teenagers and their recalcitrant parents...
