Culturally Unfit
Bryan Lynagh
Bin 273, Rundle St Until Sun 14 March

He's brash and embittered. He's cynical and a smartarse, He's vulgar and uncouth but most of all, he's culturally unfit and fiercely proud of it.

After three and a half years of manning telephones at call centres all around Melbourne, Bryan Lynagh is out to tell the world and to seek revenge on us... Yes us! We, who unwittingly provide both the humour and horror to telephone operators everywhere by simply wanting to make an enquiry or to purchase a few tickets.

Beginning his show by acrimoniously introducing us to some behind the scenes secrets of the industry and publicly getting his own back on a few team leaders who assisted in making his life a misery, Lynagh moves on to quote and wax lyrically about all the dumb things customers have said over the years. From boat trip offers to Bruce Springsteen to misplaced hash keys, Lynagh humorously purges reams of anecdotal tales in a manner that's both comical and disturbing.

'Culturally Unfit' is a show that's refreshingly different in its vengeful, cathartic approach, yet all too familiar to those who have ever had a bitch about their job. While there are a few moments that fall below par and could be tightened up, much of the material used is absolute gold.
