As promised, following last year’s sell out shows, Opeth will tour Australia in March in support of their most recent release ‘Damnation’. They will be accompanied by Virgin Black for four of the six Australian dates, including the Adelaide show at Heaven on Tues 23 March. Tickets are on sale now.

In other Australian tour news, an April tour is strongly rumoured for US hardcore weirdos Dillinger Escape Plan. A joint Anthrax, Soilwork and Killswitch Engage tour also looks at distinct possibility, but only a Brisbane show (for Sat 24 April) has actually been confirmed. April appears to be a busy month with an Entombed Australian tour also strongly rumoured. More news as it comes to hand.

Dimmu Borgir have issued the following statement regarding the departure of drummer Nick Barker: "Nicholas has been removed from the line up of Dimmu Borgir. A session drummer will be used in the future. Don’t waste your time speculating why, we have already moved on." But despite the wording of the press release, Barker has stressed in interviews that as far as he is aware, there is no bad blood between him and the Dimmu guys. "I find it quite comical," he has said of the official statement. "It totally reflects their personalities in some respects." Barker is currently devoting his time to side-project Brujeria.

The 2-track single Queensland’s Minus Life was hoping to release mid-last year has now been completely canned due to studio problems. However, the band are currently hard at work recording their debut album. An official release date has not yet been set, but they are hoping it will be available within the next few months. They also plan to return to Adelaide on Sat 1 May for a show at the Enigma Bar with Virgin Black and more tba.

Rob Zombie’s horror movie ‘House Of 1000 Corpses’ will be released in Australian cinemas on Thurs 11 March. The film has been billed as "the most shocking tale of carnage ever seen" and has yet to be classified.

Head down to the Enigma Bar on Sat 6 March for Southern Apocalypse, a night featuring some of Australia’s best metal bands, including Tasmania’s Psycroptic, Melbourne’s Alarum and WA’s Pathogen. Local support comes from Deaths Boundaries, playing their final ever show complete with original line up, and Cloth Tape. This over-18s show starts at 8pm, and entry is $15.

Swedish black metallers Marduk have announced the addition of vocalist Mortuus to the band’s ranks. He replaces previous vocalist Legion who was unceremoniously ousted from the band late last year. Marduk’s long-awaited DVD ‘Funeral Marches and Warsongs’ will finally go on sale in late Feb. The long-delayed disk includes (among other features) a live show recorded in Paris on the European leg of the ‘World Funeral’ tour, as well as footage of the band’s reunion with former vocalist Joakim Göthberg during their appearance at the Party.San Open Air festival in Germany last year.

Dark Tranquillity have recently launched the ‘Dark Tranquillity SingALong Program’, a "Windows application designed for all you closet karaoke singers out there," according to the website. At the moment, only ‘Damage Done’ lyrics are available, but more will be posted soon. The program can be downloaded at www.darktranquillity.com/media/download/dtsingalong.zip

A new Dismember track, entitled Where Ironcrosses Grow, has been posted online at www.hammerheart.com/mp3/dismember_whereironcrossesgrow.mp3. Where Ironcrosses Grow is the title track of the band’s long-awaited new album, due for release in March this year.

Melbourne’s Abrasion will hit the studio in Feb to record their debut full length, release date tba. The band are also planning a national tour which is set to take in Queensland, South Australia, New South Wales, ACT, Victoria and Tasmania. For more details check out www.abrasion.org.au.
