Prize Frenzy™!
There are those who have questioned dB Magazine's policy of hiring an enormous winged dragon beast to collect the swag for Prize Frenzy™. Clouds of sulphurous breath, swathes of innocent dead, entire suburbs engulfed in random conflagrations the insurance issues alone are enough to give one pause, and the Occupational Health & Safety people were around here almost every week until they realised that none of their officers ever returned.
Either way, Frenzor™ has signed on for another year, which most of the staff have somewhat mixed feelings about (the prizes so good, the risks so high) – and you could profit from the pillage by calling 8231 0881 at 1pm on Fri 16 Jan and politely inquiring about the availability of the following:
1. People in The Know are tipping Special Patrol for very big things, what with their national airplay, constant gigging around the place, their Big Day Out berth and their dB Magazine front cover – and you can hear why by grabbing a copy of their rather excellent 'Special Patrol' CD-EP, thanks to the band and Mixmasters Records.
2. The young people sure like that Thursday band – not only has their Big Day Out sideshow at Adelaide UniBar completely sold out, but their 'War All The Time' CD is also this issue's We Liked it And You Will Too. UMG have very kindly sent us five copies for your winning pleasure.
3. The Darkness will be at the Big Day Out, and just so you might be ready to rock (and, if needs be, roll) Warners have kindly handed over five copies of their 'Permission To Land' CD plus five special Darkness beach balls! How festival-friendly!
4. Christie Eliezer has a civilised chat with Amy Lee from Evanescence in this issue, and to celebrate Sony have slipped us some copies of their 'Fallen' CD, because they're sweeties.
5. Wade Howland has an illuminating chat with Tom Larkin from Pacifier in this issue, and Warners have very kindly given us some copies of the ultra-limited edition double vinyl version of their new 'Pacifier: Live' album. How old-school is that?
6. Denis Kirkham performs a tribute to David Bowie with his 'Dream Reality' show at the Weimar Room – and we have two double passes for the Sat 17 Jan performance, thanks to the good folks at the Weimar Room.
7. Got a thang that needs a good shaking? Then you'll want to get along to the Beach Party on Sun 25 Jan at Semaphore's Point Malcolm Reserve, especially since it features the likes of Blackalicious (who talk to Alexis Buxton-Collins this issue), Crazy Penis, Hilltop Hoods, Goldie and more! Cheers to Traffic for the two double passes they've kindly handed over.
8. Pnau will be sure to bang out the hits at the Big Day Out, but why not prepare for it with one of two exclusive DJ mix samplers, with love from Warners? You can't get these in stores, people!
9. In the final issue of last year Ryan Smith told you how good the Grinspoon '23 Hours of Waiting Around' DVD was, and this year we have five copies for your viewing pleasure, thanks to Sony.
10. Intrigued by the sounds of Tom Cruise's new film 'The Last Samurai'? Then why not take a friend to see it, thanks to Foster Workshop PR who've very kindly given us ten double season passes.
11. Lauren Connelly and Adalita from Magic Dirt seem to have hit it off very well: check out their chat in this issue, then grab yourself a copy of the 'Dirt's Plastic Loveless Letter single, with love from Warners.
ONLINE ONLY FRENZY™!
Thanks to Hausmann Communications we have a swanky Polaroid Joycam and a bagload of film up for grabs, for all your happy-snapping good times: just email andrew@dbmagazine.com.au and tell him where and why you'd like to shake it like a Polaroid picture. What that means is very much up to you. Most entertaining entry wins the haul.
