I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and an amazing New
Year - but don’t think the festive season is over. There’s some
tremendously exciting events coming up to kick off 2004!
It’s time to get high again as Altitude returns to bring you a funky mix of dancefloor and the more musical side of drum’n’bass. Fri 16 Jan sees Fiction, Tommy Jr and Jayar, joined by special guests MPK vs Patch, C1 and Stryke, with MCs Pab and Xpress on the mic, while out in the beer garden rock out to the sound of 2004 with nu-school breaks.
The Tropicana Festival on Sat 17 Jan and Sun 18 Jan features over 200 Latino & Afro Caribbean style performers from around Australia. There’s a Cuban cocktails lounge, workshops with African drumming, Latin dancing, a Latin movie cinema, a handicrafts bazaar, kids rides and more.
SystemBot bring their blend of hard, progressive and melodic trance with splashes of driving techno to Chemistry on Thurs 22 Jan. Expect to hear these boys shine throughout 2004, continuing their successes of 2003, including ranking in Fresh FM’s Top 92 for 2003 with End Of Summer.
Experience the fresh sound of the New York underground as Aesop Rock hits Traffic on Thur 22 Jan. Joining him will be one of Boston’s greatest: Mr Lif and support comes from MCs Delta and Muskrat alongside DJs Denorthwode, Shep and Kim Dezen. This is a show for anyone who loves real hiphop.
On Sat 24 Jan Outbreak at the Crown & Sceptre is the night the Magma lads call their own. After a month off and some high profile gigs under their belts, the 7-piece funk explosion bring back their party vibe alongside DJs on the old skool tip with a serious nu skool break injection: Jaywalker, Noodle and The Activist.
Bringing us the vibes of the big Melbourne and Sydney summer dance festivals but with our own unique Adelaide flavour, The Beach Party on Sun 25 Jan will feature Goldie, DJ Zinc, Tayo, MC Sureshock with live acts Blackalicious, Crazy Penis, Hilltop Hoods, Terra Firma, Magma and Funkoars. Held at the new venue of Point Malcolm Reserve at Semaphore, this is sure to be one of the best parties of the Summer.
Indiana Jones is a way cool archaeologist, and if you’re as cool as him and enjoy living in the past then get along to Anthems Resurrection at St Pauls on Sun 25 Jan for an old school party like no other! DJs on the night include Andy J, Angu$, ATB, Brendon, Brett Witter, George The Boss, Kontrol, Reelax, Madness, Mr S, Noddy, Odyssey vs Devious, PhD and Skot Holder plus MCs Tim, Maestro D, Moore and Pab.
Also on Australia Day weekend: System 6 gets a Re-boot and find itself at Traffic, presenting Frantic Vs Vicious Circle with two of Frantic UK’s greatest DJs: Justin Bourne and Andy Farley. With an all star local line up of Adelaide’s finest including Odyssey, Mr S, Damage, Sniper, Quantum, Noddy vs H Bomb (performing an Oldskool Hardcore set), Devious, Cheeky B, Submission, L8’s vs Ben, Angel vs Gagootz, Ism, Youngstar, The Doss C*nts, Propaganda, Torque, Double D, Side Track with MCs Maestro D and Quantum, this is yet another party not to be missed!
Then of course there’s The Big Day out, featuring a wicked line up of hip-hop and dance (including Basement Jaxx, Afrika Bambaataa, Lost Prophets, Aphex Twin, Luke Vibert, Downsyde, Peaches, Trey, King Kapisi, David Holmes, Felix Da Housecat, Pnau, Audio Bullys, Salmonella Dub, P Money, Scribe, Sonicanimation, Friendly, Pee Wee Ferris, Snap To Zero, Odyssey, Kim Dezen, Rah, Reflux, Beat Smugglers, Terra Firma and the Hilltop Hoods).
