In Metal Xmas-related news, note that the Fowlers Live show on Sat 20 Dec will be the last-ever for Spyne, while major show sponsor Big Phat Records wishes to inform all local metal acts that it is planning to put together a sampler of Adelaide metal talent that will be due for worldwide release early next year. The label will take care of all recording, pressing and promotion, and advises that there will be no charge for the bands that it chooses to put on the sampler. All interested groups should send bios and demos to Big Phat Adelaide, PO Box 7050, West Lakes 5021.

Melbourne extreme metal label No Escape Records wishes to inform metal fans of a new split CD release featuring previously unreleased material from underground bands Splatterhouse and Gruesome Stuff Relish. Hailing from Portland, Oregon, and described as that city's "newest murder merchants", Splatterhouse play "thick and chunky metallic goregrind" in the tradition of early Sanity's Dawn and Exhumed, while Spanish band Gruesome Stuff Relish "resurrect the spirit of 'Reek of Putrefaction' in a voodoo rite sure to thrill and terrify those daring enough to venture into their cursed jungle village." If this sounds like it might get the neural circuits of your pleasure centre crackling, you can order it on-line at www.noescaperecords.com.

Former Sydneysiders Cryogenic would like to let their fans know that they have recently changed both their name and country of residence. Claiming to have found a new sound and direction since their recruitment of a new vocalist earlier in the year, the band has changed its name to In the Name Of, and moved to America for an indefinite period. The group has produced a demo which is being circulated to various record labels, and has a considerable number of shows in Los Angeles planned for December and January; by the time you read this, they will already have played at venues in Hollywood and Universal City. At the end of January, they will be touring the West Coast, while in February, they will be playing "two very important showcase gigs" in Hollywood and New York respectively. In March, they will be one of the bands playing at the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas. Here's wishing the band every success in their ambitious endeavours.

And news just in: there's an all-star lineup for the Not New Years Eve show at Jive on Fri 2 Jan, with Full Frontal Lobotomy leading the charge of Undamynd, Nugget, Fivestar, All Morals Crushed, 3rd Time Lucky and Wendy Icon. It's all-ages and kicks off at 5pm
