Nothing says "Xmas" like nine-and-a-half-hours of metal, which is exactly what Metal Xmas has on offer at Fowlers Live on Sat 20 Dec. It's all ages, it kicks off at 2.30 and features a lineup of Full Frontal Lobotomy, Tidal, Diatribe,Ungkas, Anotherfall, Barcode, Nun Nicer, Officer Down, Skintilla, Stigmartyr, Meatwallett, Scapegoat, Equal Minded, Severance and, for the last time ever, Spyne, who are sadly calling it a day. There's also giveaways and more up for grabs - check www.dabigpig.com for all the up-to-the-minute details.

A couple of bits of news to announce concerning local band Truth Corroded. First up, this group will be filling the coveted slot of local support for Sepultura when that band plays here on Sun 30 Nov at Fowlers Live (rather than the Thebarton Theatre). Truth Corroded vocalist Jason urges people to try and make the show. "Fear Factory, Korn, Static X and countless other bands bypass Adelaide," he laments, "so get along to this show and support Sepultura for showing Adelaide respect." After supporting Sepultura, Truth Corroded will make its next live appearance at the Enigma Bar on Fri 12 Dec, where it will play an all-ages show with fellow locals Diatribe, and interstaters Frankenbok and Daysend.

The Eternal, a Melbourne-based band which may be better known to Adelaideans as its earlier incarnation, Cryptal Darkness (who played here a little over a year ago), have just signed a two-album deal with Finnish label Firebox Records. The band landed the deal as a result of a demo CD they recorded earlier in the year which received much radio airplay, both in Australia and overseas. The group made its live debut in September at Melbourne's second Headbanger's Ball, and played its last live show for the time being with local outfit Virgin Black last weekend. The band will soon begin recording its first album, 'The Sombre Light of Isolation'.

Swedish band Wolverine - which has been around since 1995 - has just released its latest work, 'Cold Light of Monday'. The group's third album, and the first of a four-album deal it has signed with label Elitist Records, is apparently a concept album that tells the story of a young, abused woman called Sarah. Sarah's ordeal begins with her sitting alone - battered, bruised and bleeding - on the cold floor of a filthy apartment, listening to the sound of evening traffic coming in through the window, and trying to work out how she managed to end up in such a miserable state. The rest of the album provides the answer.

Finally, a very early notice of a show featuring Adelaide noise/punk/grind/rock legends Nihilism. This band, which released its first full-length album earlier in the year, will be playing at the Crown & Anchor Hotel with support acts The Meatbeaters, NFI and Black Belt Jones on Fri 16 Jan next year. More details to follow.
