Head down to the Land of Promise this Sat 15 Nov to see locals Dephiler and Juggermatt previewing material from their forthcoming split CD. They will be joined by Raven Black Night, Skintilla and Hatred Slave.

Speaking of Skintilla, their song Trust from the latest 'Shedding Skin' EP has been nominated for best song in the heavy metal category of the 2003 Musicoz song awards. Trust made the top five nominees from over 200 entries Australia-wide, with the winner being announced shortly.

Hot on the heels of their national tour with Strapping Young Lad, Sydney metallers Daysend have released their debut album 'Severance', out now on Chatterbox Records. Featuring 11 tracks of dominating riffs and slick melodies, 'Severance' is already receiving critical acclaim, with one of the tracks, Countdown, added to Triple J rotation.

Canadian technical death metallers Cryptopsy have officially parted ways with vocalist Martin Lacroix. Lacroix was the band's third vocalist, following the much-vaunted Lord Worm and the much-criticised Mike DiSalvo. No reasons have been given for his departure, but the band are currently seeking a replacement frontman while continuing to write material for their fifth studio album, tentatively due in early 2004.

By far the most talked about band in the current hardcore scene, California-based Terror will heading our way for the first time this Nov. Having just completed the Rise Of Brutality tour with Hatebreed and Madball, you can see what all the fuss is about yourself on Fri 28 Nov at Enigma Bar. Supports are Day Of Contempt, Shot Point Blank and Sydney's Last Nerve. Tickets are on sale now from CIB.

The Berzerker are due to release a DVD on 23 Feb, but the question is: should it be a single or a double disc? Of course, a double disc would contain a whole lot of extra features, but it would also cost more. Post your vote on their website www.theberzerker.com

Opeth have had to reschedule their previously announced Australian tour, originally slated to take place in Dec, because the price of flights to Australia during that time of the year were "ridiculously expensive." The tour has been rescheduled for the last week of March 2004. Exact dates will be announced shortly.

Burzum mastermind Varg Vikernes is likely to face additional prison time as a result of a recent attempted jailbreak. He has been charged with stealing a Volvo car, possession of a handgun (believed to have been used to hijack the Volvo) and also possession of an AG3 high-precision automatic rifle (a weapon powerful enough to kill a person at a three-kilometre distance). It has also been alleged that he was attempting to leave his native Norway in order to join the French Foreign Legion. Vikernes is currently serving a 21-year sentence for arson and the 1993 murder of Mayhem guitarist Euronymous. It is expected that no more than two years will be tacked on to his sentence as a consequence of his latest activities.

The members of Metallica have recently appeared as characters on South Park, however no actual band members were used as voice-overs but were instead impersonated by professional actors. The episode was a spoof on the issue of downloading music from the Internet, a subject over which Metallica have been a target of many jokes since the Napster battle in 2000. Stills from the episode can be viewed at www.4horsemen.4t.com/pictures/2003_southpark.jpg

Originally released in 1998 on Negative Attention Records then remastered and re-released in 2000 by Matt Zane's Inzane Records, 'Praying, Hoping, Nothing' offers a cardiac-arresting look at pre-Earache December. Earache have decided to reissue the release, with full remastering, new artwork and several bonus tracks including covers of Skunk Anansie's Selling Jesus, Death Angel's Seemingly Endless Time and Motorhead's Ace of Spades.
