Opeth have set 'Lamentations: Live at Shepherd's Bush Empire' as the title for their forthcoming live DVD, due at the end of Nov through Music For Nations. The release, which was recorded in London in Sept this year, will contain both the mellow and heavy set with a running time of approximately one hour each, as well as a 65-minute documentary about the band with an in-depth focus on the recording of 'Deliverance' and 'Damnation'. A two-CD live album will also be issued in the coming months. Opeth are currently planning a second Australian tour for early Dec.
Astriaal's long-awaited 'The Throne to Perish: An Icon of Disease' 7"EP has finally been released and is now available from Blacktalon Media. The release features two exclusive recordings - ThroneTto Perish and the original pre-album recording of Ode To Antiquity. Recorded in the Caverns of Despair, the 7" has a much earthier, rawer sound than the 'Renascent Misanthropy' album. Cannibal Corpse have set 'The Wretched Spawn' as the title for their forthcoming album, due in Feb through Metal Blade Records. The follow-up to 2002's 'Gore Obsessed' features similarly tame-sounding song titles - Blunt Force Castration is about the only one that looks remotely interesting. Other titles include Severed Head Stoning, Nothing Left To Mutilate and Bent Backwards And Broken.
Shaitan Mazar, the new band featuring former Nile members Chief Spires (bass/vocals) and John Ehlers (guitar), have posted their entire four-song demo in mp3 format at their official web site www.shaitanmazar.com. The band's musical style has been described by Spires as "ranging from the most extreme attack to metal, ambient, melodic passages. Our purpose is, basically, no limits", and they are currently shopping the demo to interested labels with a view towards releasing their debut album in 2004.
Fear Factory will contribute a new song to the 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre Soundtrack' which is due out next month. Entitled Archetype, the track was composed by the band's bassist-turned-guitarist Christian Olde Wolbers and drummer Raymond Herrera. A re-recorded version of the song is likely appear on the band's forthcoming full-length album, tentatively due mid next year. Archetype marks Fear Factory's first release without the contributions of founding member Dino Cazares, who was unceremoniously ousted from the band last year. Other bands contributing to the soundtrack include: Pantera, Static-X, Meshuggah, Morbid Angel and Lamb Of God. In other Pantera news, guitarist Dimebag Darrell and drummer Vinnie Paul have officially named their new band Damageplan. The band's debut album, tentatively titled 'New Found Power', is due out in Jan next year.
