Hip Hop Hooray!!! A slew of top class hiphop acts are heading our way, and it's about time too! Having missed out on so many last year, I feared that hiphop in Adelaide had gone the way of the dodo. Sure we have extraordinary talent here in Adelaide, but that's MORE of a reason to see international acts, in my opinion - that way we can show the world we rock it with the best of them! Wouldn't be excellent if the Hilltop Hoods got a recording contract worth millions rather than yet another dodgy r;n'b act???
But enough of my ranting, coming to our fine city soon are Ugly Duckling on 22 July, 1200 Techniques and Kut Masta Kurt on Thursday 31 July, Foreign Legion on 4 August, the Jungle Brothers on 18 Oct, Missy Elliot in December, and Chuck D and the Boys from Public Enemy late 2003. And talking about the Hilltops, Fri 1 Aug sees the DMC State Finals hit Traffic with the Hilltop Hoods, DJ Bones and the return of DJ Next, plus the best hiphop DJ's Adelaide has to offer.
And if that doesn't float your boat, Adelaide gets the chance to see the French ambassador of dance Dimitri From Paris. For one night only the playboy entertainer plays a three-hour long set of the most influential music from the past 25 years in the venue that just seems made for him, Savvy, on Sun 13 July. Also on the house tip is Crazy Penis' DJ Jim Baron, scheduled to land alongside New White Sneakers at Minke on Fri 18 July. And also get your butt shakin' at Our House with Sean Quinn and Kasey Taylor on Fri 18 July at Traffic. Another godfather of house appears at Minke on Fri 25 July, as Derrick Carter's label and production partner Luke Solomon finally plays in Adelaide. Expect to hear some of the greatest dance music ever made from this "in demand" DJ.
If it's rave you're after, then don't forget that whilst Winter Enchanted may just be a fading jaw ache, the boys are bringing UK hard house DJs Nick Sentience & Chris Hampshire and d'n'b's Total Science down to rock at Warehouse Riot on Sat 19 July. Le Rox will be transformed into four areas of sound over two levels for this massive inner city rave.
Speaking of Ultraworld, they're planing an invasion of Chemistry on Thurs 10 July. Hard House specialist Sonic and d'n'b whiz kid Daniel Ro attack the dance massive alongside Adelaide's finest. The week after that sees hardhouse supremo Jon Langford alongside UK hardcore legend Scott Brown. And in news just to hand the legendary BK and James Lawson are set to play Chemistry on Thurs 2 Oct.
Nik Skitz has done it 15 times now, and you can get your autographed, pre-release copy of 'Skitz Mix 15', and see the master mixer himself, at Chemistry on Sat 12 July. I know my signed, numbered and specially packed PWEI CD is worth about $50 more now than when I acquired it, so I'm sure these will be mega-valued in the not too distant future! The following week will see Smash & Grab return once again.
I mentioned it last time, but as those damn annoying Cunninghams adverts prove, repetition works! REPETITION WORKS! Adam Freeland hits Traffic on Fri 18 July for a 3-hour club set. If you've seen him work his magic before I don't need to tell you again, but if you've missed him for some pathetic reason, or even an extremely good one, don't miss himthis time...
Also amazing is DJ Bailey, who returns for his fourth visit to Adelaide on Thurs 7 August. Bailey's been venturing into production, so expect to hear some massive tuneage from d'n'b's pin up boy. Following in his footsteps are Marcus Intalex and Klute, who are set to play at Fowlers Live in September. For those d'n'b heads that can't wait for your fix, Bulletproof's DJ Potts is on Fri 11 July at Traffic, bringing you more fresh UK sounds.
In amongst this great tower of tour news, is a pile of releases 10 feet deep. Some to strike someone's fancy are the new Inertia Recording's release from Tummy Touch artist Chungking 'We Travel Fast', 'Non Zero Sumness' by Planet Funk, Junior Jack & Kid Cr\u232\'8fme's 'In the House 3', MJ Cole 'Cut to the Chase', Salim Rafiq 'Sound Off 2', and Deep Dish 'afterclub' CD's mixed by DJs Sharam andDubfire. And, just to cement the fact that Australia is the most beautiful place in the world, Plump DJs are heading over to make a music video here! Hopefully they'll do a couple of shows, even making their way to Adelaide perhaps???
