First
up, bad news for anyone who was planning to attend this year's Metal
For The Brain festival in Canberra: the event has been cancelled.
Apparently, MFTB has become yet another casualty of the public
liability crisis currently going on in this country. Commiserations to
all who were intending to go, and all the bands who were on the bill,
including local lads Oni.
On the
subject of Oni, they will be performing at an all-ages show at the
Land of Promise Hotel on Sat 26 Oct. Organised by Plague Promotions
and Battlefield Promotions, this show (which starts at 8 PM) will also
feature Slaughter Thou, Raven Black Night, Sat
10 Hash and Dephiler.
The
Halloween Zombie Destruction Fest being held at the Proscenium on Sat
2 Nov. A hardcore/metalcore show, the gig will feature local groups Shot
Point Blank, I Killed the Prom Queen, and Back On Track
(playing their first show), as well as interstate visitors The Wick
Effect, So Far Down, and Restraint. Doors open at
6:30 PM; discounted entry for those in Halloween costume!
In
touring news, Soulfly are set to visit Australia in December,
and will be putting on a show at Heaven on Tues 10 Dec. The band has
recently released a new album simply called '3': a title chosen
because of the mystical connotations of that number, and the fact that
it is the band's third album. No doubt, more details about the band's
show here will be coming soon… We can also expect a tour from Pungent
Stench sometime in January next year. No further details on that
as yet.
Ex-Slayer
drummer Dave Lombardo has expressed interest in helping his old
band out with their new album, but only if the group starts working on
it soon. If they take too long, he says, he might not be available;
who knows what he will be doing in a year or two's time?
In more
overseas news, the cause of death of Dave Williams of Drowning
Pool has recently been reported as being heart disease. Not a
particularly cheery revelation.
Another
reminder that Kerrang! Radio is happening on Friday nights from ten
till midnight on Triple M.
A few
bands will be releasing albums next month, among them Napalm Death,
Cathedral and Mudvayne. Morbid Angel are also
planning a couple of releases - or, rather, re-releases - sometime
soon; they will be reissuing their first two albums 'Altars of
Madness' and 'Blessed are the Sick' in remastered form, and with
various interesting extras included. Still on the subject of releases,
Melbourne band Atomizer's new album 'Death Mutation Disease
Annihilation' is now in stores.
Australian
outfit The Berzerker are planning on doing a month-long tour of
America early next year, accompanied by Nile, Napalm Death, Strapping
Young Lad, and Voivod.
On the
local front, Cloth Tape have recently signed a deal with Klasma
Productions to distribute the band's new CD 'Lifeless Culture' in
Germany. This deal is only a small one, but the group is very happy
with it; they hope it will help them in their plans to tour Germany
sometime mid-2003. They would like to thank everyone who has supported
them.
In more
local news, Tidal were the winners in the hard rock/metal
section of the SA Live Band Competition (sponsored, in part, by dB
Magazine), with Spyne the runners-up. The grand final of the
above competition was held at Breakers on Sun 6 Oct, and was attended
by almost 500 people. Other bands to benefit from the competition were
Counterfeit and Diatribe, who will be helping support
the Testeagles and Segression respectively when these
groups come to Adelaide for shows in November.
Finally,
for anyone who cares, Kid Rock and Pamela Anderson are
set to marry sometime soon. Pammy's ex-Tommy Lee doesn't seem
too upset by the news; he says he'd like to "hug and thank"
the groom-to-be for taking Pamela off his hands.
