As you
know I love rumors. And the big one going around this week is that an
extremely well known Adelaide dance music identity will be opening a
club on Light Square in the near future. Expect it to be cutting edge.
As you
read first in dB Magazine a couple of issues ago, Sasha is confirmed
to play at Heaven on Thursday 28 of November, the first gig in his
Australian tour. This will be one of the events of the year so see for
yourself why he is regarded by many as the best DJ in the world!
Kazu
Kimura is one of Australia’s freshest and best exponents of techno.
Adelaide techno lovers get the chance to see him in action again as he
will be DJing at Minke/Skylab’s Wind Up on Nov 29th alongside Paul
Glenn, Jorge Watts, DJ Bold and Bundi. This night is going to be
massive following the trends of the recent Wind Up's.
Last
fortnight I broke the news that Krafty Kutz, Roni Size and MC Dynamite
were to be headlining the Drumz Beach Party on January 11 at a
heritage listed fort alongside the Semaphore beach. Well it seems like
that is not all that got broken, as Roni Size was in a car accident
and has cancelled his proposed tour. But all is not bad and in fact
there is some damn good news! He will be replaced by Doc Scott and MC
Justyc and now the Scratch Perverts have also been added.
On
Thursday 17 October James Lavelle, founder of seminal beats label
MoWax, co-producer with DJ Shadow on U.N.K.L.E. & resident spinner
at Fabric in the UK, will be gracing Minke’s Skylab with his
presence. James Lavelle is one of the most significant entrepreneurial
artists involved in underground music this era and it is a rare
privilege for audiences to be able to appreciate someone of his talent
in the intimate surrounds of a club like Skylab. Having just completed
mixing the latest Global Underground CD to critical acclaim this will
be one if the best small club events of the year. Limited tickets from
Area 101, Minke, VenueTix, B# Records & 618 Records.
As we
all know, Fabio, the godfather of smooth liquid funk drum & bass
makes his way to Adelaide for the first time on November 1. I can now
tell you that he’ll be DJing at a Drumz event at the Adelaide Uni
Bar. See the man who was one of Grooverider’s biggest influences.
If you’ve
been listening to Triple J you’ve probably heard the track which
samples Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, There’s a Better Place.
Well, the man behind this track, Crazy Penis aka DJ Jim Baron will
appear for the first time on Friday October 18 at Minke. Crazy Penis
has been responsible for many great records over the last decade
including releases on Naked Music, Paper Recordings as well as a hand
in the Robodisco series on Paper.
Well...with
all the internationals acts coming to Adelaide in October and November
it's easy to forget about Enchanted Forest on Saturday December 7.
What? Are you crazy? As if Enchanted Forest isn't the main topic of
conversation in dance music circles from mid-year to December! Who's
DJing? How many stages? And most importantly...where is it? Well, we
already know a few of the answers and a few more pieces of the puzzle
are in place with the final lineup announced. EZ Rollers live (UK),
Green Ant Records Miki Live (Japan), Italy’s Gaetek & owner of
Bush and Boo Records Eric Powell (UK) being the latest addition to the
already humungous line up. But you'll have to wait for December 7 to
find out where it is. check out www.system6.doof.org
or email enchant@chariot.net.au for more info.
The
Fabric boys have been busy. Between hosting stages at Adelaide’s
biggest festivals they are still managing to put on their own, more
intimate showcases of Adelaide’s best progressive house talent at
Skylab. Fabric’s October edition is coming up on the 18 where they’ll
be launching their website.(www.fabricadelaide.com).
Then on Nov 15 it’s time for their annual Fabric Classics night
which will also be a charity event with $1 from every patron going to
the Anti-Cancer Foundation. Finally, Dec 20 is a very special
Christmas edition with Gwill Morris aka Main Element from Silver
Planet Recordings (UK) coming down to blow the roof off Skylab.
And
while on the subject of progressive, one of the world’s best
exponents, Steve Lawler, will be visiting these shores, bringing his
trademark sexy, tribal and deep house sound to Melbourne on Friday 18
October as part of his ‘Lights Out’ world tour. For more
information on Steve Lawler and the ‘Lights Out’ tour, presented
by Future Entertainment, and his new album, go to www.globalunderground.co.uk/lightsout
After
the success of the last Reunion, what choice did Rush have but to
follow it up with a bigger and better event? On Saturday, October 12
Rush presents Reunion 2, the next old skool event for the rave
massive. Arena One features Old Skool Rave & Anthems with Brendon,
Noddy, Devious, ATB, Madness and more. Arena Two features Jungle
Classics with DJs MPK, Fiction, Rayda, Noddy, Pab, Mark 7 & Mennan
among others and entry is $10.And the next Saturday, October 19, Rush
presents Australia's no.1 drum&bass DJ, Greg Packer (Perth).
Bigdog
Records is at it again, presenting the mother of all mash-ups. 33
local DJ's and the original hyper-speed master MC Fearless, straight
outta London. This event takes place on October 17 at Minke and
celebrates the new Bigdog Records 12inch, Bigdog 001, featuring the
dancefloor smash "Can't Resist You" Each local DJ has 10
minutes to go as crazy as they can whilst MC Fearless goes nuts over
the top. Entry is $10
Finally
we have some news on the next Ultraworld! Taking place on Saturday
October 26 this event will be worth going to for the venue alone. So
where is it you ask? The old Downtown amusement centre on Hindley St.
Everyone complains about the regurgitating of the same tired old
venues so here is the chance to rave somewhere completely new. And if
that isn’t enough, Echoic (Perth), Presha (NZ), Eggers (Frantik UK)
Kane (Frantik UK) and Nil and Tracy live will help you celebrate the
birth of a new venue. Why go to Melbourne, when Minke brings Melbourne
to you? September Saturdays, Minke and Skylab bring you the true
definition of 2 clubs in 1.Over four weeks, Minke are transplanting
Honkytonks’ [Melb] resident djs: ANT J STEEP & ANGELA MASON
(Winners of the 2002 Australian Red Bull DJ Academy Award) - while
Skylab residents, Bundi & Sanjii show our interstate dancefloor
brothers and sisters at Honkytonks how it’s done - Adelaide style!
