Tidal

Ultraviolet

Independent

Having seen the high quality live performance which the band has exhibited around Adelaide’s local music scene over the past few years, it was to be expected that Tidal’s second release would be anything but ordinary. Much to the delight of their dedicated fan base ‘Ultraviolet’ is a recording which far exceeds any expectations.

This five track EP contains a unique blend of musical sub-genres, ranging from industrial to aspects of hip-hop, but each song still retains its own identity, preventing the release from becoming repetitive or tiresome. Although it is a hard task to single out particular tracks as being above the rest, the fast, down-tuned industrial sound of Behind The Mask showcases the abilities of both the band as a whole and front man Joe Binetti’s especially impressive rapcore vocal technique. Another track worth mentioning is Tooma, which combines aggressive and tranquil guitar riffs, accompanied by a haunting chorus.

Tidal is one of those groups which reinforces a sense of pride in Adelaide’s music scene, leaving the listener eagerly awaiting for a full length album release. If you haven’t heard them as yet, they are definitely well worth a listen.
