Suns Owl

Recharged

Throughout the world Japanese bands are renowned for their high levels of energy and enthusiasm for various music genres, leaving Suns Owl’s triumphant breakthrough into the world metal scene unexceptional.

When looking at the album overall there are many highlights and original bursts. However some parts of 'Recharged' are experimental to the point of being inconsistent with the rest of the recording. The album starts off as an aggressive form of hardcore, then shifts into an all-out metal fiesta, followed by a remixed techno based track (Psychedelic Terrorist) which appears to be sort of thrown randomly into the framework, giving the album a feeling of inconsistency overall. However, in saying that, ‘Recharged’ has fine individual moments in abundance. 4735 Days Like Hell is particularly outstanding, beginning as a slow drum and sample sequence but building into a fast paced metal onslaught. Similarly, the hostile Mulling Up leaves a lasting impression with its lead guitar antics.

As the band sing predominately in English, perhaps the language barrier has restricted the subject matter, but Suns Owl disguise this flaw impeccably with this all-out aggressive recording. Anyway, the chances of fully understanding the lyrical content of any basic metal album is slim to none. Right?
